New Mercedes CLS AMG spied wintertesting with less camouflage
Wednesday March 24 2010 - Hans
The new Mercedes-Benz CLS AMG has been spied wintertesting in Scandinavia. While the normal CLS has been caught a number of times the CLS AMG only appeared on the Nürburgring last year. After that we haven´t seen something of the car anymore. Untill today!
Very late in the wintertesting season Mercedes is also testing the new CLS AMG. Like we saw on previouw spyshots the car will have a much sportier look than the normal CLS. On these new spyshots we can see much more of the design thanks to the less camouflaged body.
New bi-turbo V8
The current CLS 63 AMG shares its engine with the previous-generation E 63 AMG and both make 378kW (514hp). The new CLS AMG will not share it's engine with the E 63 AMG anymore. Mercedes-AMG recently introduced a brand-new 5.5 litre V8 with two turbos. We expect this 544 hp engine to debut in the new CLS AMG.
2011
Sales of the CLS 63 AMG should begin in 2011. Segment rivals will include the new Porsche Panamera Turbo and Aston Martin's new Rapide. Audi will also enter this four-door coupe segment with the A7.
